After School Program

We are pleased to offer an after school martial arts program at the Taekwondo & Hapkido Academy of Chapel Hill. Our program is a great way for parents to make the most of their children's after school hours. Our mission is to help children develop discipline, focus, confidence, goal setting skills and respect. The children have designated homework and martial arts training time as well as free time for play, reading, and other activities. The children are productive in capable, caring hands in a safe environment.

HOURS

Children are in our care from after school to pick-up time at 6:00PM. After school activities conclude at 5:00 and children have free play while awaiting pick-up.

The Academy After School program includes pick-up from:

All Chapel Hill-Carrboro City schools
Some Orange, Chatham, and Durham County Schools.

CLOSINGS

We are closed Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and the day after, Christmas Eve through New Years Day, Presidents Day, Spring Break, and Memorial Day. We will pick up your child on early dismissal days at no additional charge.

We will be open for business on all other scheduled school closing days, such as teacher work days, and on inclement weather closings (roads permitting). On these days, you may drop off your child after 7:30 am and pick up your child by 6:00 pm at no additional charge.

If schools close early due to inclement weather we will pick the children up early (roads permitting).

After School Activities

Master Rebollar and the After School counselors provide stimulating, entertaining, and educational activities for the children so that by the time they are picked-up they have exercised, done their homework, socialized, and are ready to relax at home with their families.

The After School program rooms are stocked with books, games, and arts supplies for the kids to use in their free time. In addition to daily homework time and martial arts classes the children have the option to participate in other extra-curricular, learning activities.

Daily worksheets: Each month the children receive a folder with daily activity sheets based on positive themes such as respect, honor, strength, and confidence, to complete in their free time. The activities are fun and cover a range of topics and a range of skill levels. Kids may choose from puzzles, essay topics such as "With a partner, write a paragraph about what 'Confident' means to you", Draw & Color projects, Finish the Sentence, and Word Scramble.

Spanish clinic: The children have the opportunity for 20 minutes a day of Spanish Clinic based on a computer learning program and taught by native Spanish speakers who are fluent in English.

The After School program rooms are equipped with a projector screen so on long days, teacher workdays and inclement weather days, for example, kids can watch a movie on the "big screen".

Special Winning Attitude Team (SWAT)

Each month Master Misael recognizes After School students who everyday have been exceptionally diligent about completing homework assignments, showing curtesy to others, and bringing a positive, helpful attitude to After School. Exhibiting these behaviors is rewarded with a Certificate of Recognition and a special SWAT patch for the uniform. Everyone wants to be on SWAT!
